Banks Panga has been working closely with Imemsa in a combined effort to design a new fully finished panga for the American market - the beautifully finished IM 28A with all the options you are accustomed to built into a panga design. Many crucial regulatory and functional design improvements have been made to meet the demands of Banks Panga and the American customer and we are proud to offer the very first one for sale here in the USA.
Pangas unique ride is due to a pad keel which starts at the stern at its widest point and tapers to the bow. This is one of the reasons why it requires so little horsepower for this size boat. The self bailing IM 28A has a maximum of 300 HP. The panga has become the ultimate choice for replacing two boats with one. Comfortably fish tunas and mahi offshore or run skinny for bone fish and drum.
The key features of the Banks Panga IM 28A design are reverse chines, high bow and a beam of 7’7” along with the traditional panga delta pad keel design which widens from bow to stern. The high bow and gunwale provide buoyancy and elevation for casting and retrieval of carrying heavy loads and minimizes spray coming on board. She only draws around 11 inches and typically is outfitted with a hydraulic jack plate to take advantage of its shallow draft.

Seating Arrangement
Sufficiently recessed fwd and aft seatings are an option that many bay boats are lacking, but you will love the perfectly recessed seating option of the Panga which allows for family and friends to safely lounge up forward and back aft while running full speed. The bow has U-shaped seating with an optional table in between them to create a huge casting platform / sun lounge deck. Or you can have a permanent deck instead which increases your self bailing fish / storage box size dramatically. Stainless steel railings for your protection are an option with either design. If you are just out cruising, it has a huge and comfortable sun lounge deck with custom made cushions and removable backrests throughout. The design of the bow seating has many advantages with safety being at the top of the list.
The aft bench seating has quick release removable backrest options leaving a clean stern for fishing when removed or for easily storing when not in use which is the key to making your cushions last. The helm seat backrest has quick release folding arms for easy removal and storage. To help increase their life, all cushions on the Banks Panga IM 28A are removable.
The large helm station includes both forward and aft facing seating. The aft facing seating of the helm center brings together the cockpit area with the transom bench seating making it an exquisite socializing area with family friends all sitting around. In the middle of this space there is an option for a beautiful drop leaf removable table and two additional removable pedestal seats for socializing or fishing.
Storage Features
The IM 28A has an incredible amount of storage starting with the helm center which has three different storage compartments one of which doubles as an insulated cooler. The second one is easily accessible from two hatches on the port and starboard side, while the third one is accessible from another hatch on the back of seat.
An oversized center console with large access door allows ample space for more storage or to climb inside and use an optional toilet in comfort. This area also serves as an easy access to your electronics through removable panels. Under the steering of the console there’s access to another storage area and electrical components. There also are not one but two electronics boxes for additional dry storage under the custom hard top.
In the bow a large self bailing anchor locker storage exists with notched hatch lids for flush closing of hatch while on anchor. The bow casting platform / sun lounge has two massive self bailing storage / fish boxes which drain directly overboard without the need for troublesome pumps. The access doors are large with hydraulic arms for easy stowing and removing of large objects. Another choice is the U-shaped seating which has storage underneath all the seats with optional table in the middle. Either design includes self bailing drains overboard to keep your storage area dry and maintenance free without the need for pumps.
There are two separate storage areas under the aft transom bench seating. On the starboard side there’s a removable fiberglass storage box which gives an easy access to the bilge, rigging and pumps. Another storage area on the port side is the live bait well with rounded corners and blue gel coat color for longer bait life along with a clear lid and wired led light for easy viewing. Watertight hatches also exist in the engine well for more accessibility to the bilge for easy maintenance.
Custom T-Top
The Banks Panga IM 28A T-tops have multiple options and are of highest quality and strength using oversized 2" aluminum. All tops are a 100% welded piece. They are custom fit for the boat and console then mounted to both the deck and console in eight locations. It can include hard tops or canvas soft tops with electronics boxes and welded tabs for anything from led lights to outriggers.
Choose from an array of colors for the soft top and over 6,000 colors for powder coating the aluminum T-top. T- tops will be pre-drilled for running wires so no need to worry about future electronics installations. Friction doors for the electronic box will also provide an easy access. All tops come with four rocket launchers and an anchor light as standard, but we can customize them or design new ones to suit your needs.
Engine Power
Banks Pangas are usually rigged out with a Yamaha or Suzuki 4 stroke with a range of sizes to fit the customers’ needs. Hydraulic steering, hydraulic jack plates and digital multi function controls with fuel management systems to show off its superior efficiency are common options.
All engines are warranted through registered Yamaha and Suzuki dealers and may include specials for up to 6 years. Best engine ranges for IM 28A are 200 hp to 300 hp.
Navigation Tech
Garmin Charplotter Echomap plus 94sv touch screen 9” with keyed-assist, CHIRP Sonar, CHIRP ClearVu and CHIRP SideVu, detailed Bluechart g3 coastal, WiFi, quick draw contours, record and rewind, Panoptix Live Scope ready, NMEA 2000 network ready. View all this data including accepting text messages, emails and even phone calls right on your Echomap plus display with a NMEA network.
This with the ability to access and update your charts with ActiveCaptain App, plan and save waypoints and routes between the app and your plotter at home or on board. Even add autopilot and engine data to the networked Garmin display if desired. Customize your electronics with any size screen or Simrad products. Banks Panga's different console models all provide ample space for flush mounting the electronics you desire.
